On 5 February 2025, MDPI Canada hosted a dynamic and engaging academic Salon for the first time at the University of Toronto, bringing together key MDPI editors and staff for a day of insightful discussions and presentations. The Salon provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships with our editorial community while exploring the future of open access publishing and sharing MDPI's vision for our shared future.
The afternoon featured a series of valuable and thought-provoking presentations, including an introduction to MDPI’s initiatives, the fundamentals of open access, and updates on our Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP) and Publication Ethics. These sessions sparked lively conversation amongst attendees during our post-presentation round-table discussions on important topics such as editorial decision making, reviewer matching, and emerging trends in the research/editorial community. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the MDPI Best Contribution Awards, recognizing the outstanding work of Editorial Board Members who have made significant contributions to advancing research. The award ceremony was followed by dinner, where attendees had the opportunity to continue their conversations, make new connections, and enjoy a variety of dishes.
The event was met with positive feedback, with many editors expressing gratitude for the opportunity to connect, share ideas, and collaborate. Many editors reported looking forward to the next MDPI event in Canada, and we are working hard to provide more engaging event opportunities for our North American editors. MDPI Canada looks forward to building on these meaningful discussions and strengthening our relationships with the broader editorial community in the future. Stay tuned for more news of MDPI’s expansion in events across North America.
